Ahjoomah's Apron // Photo: @vansventures

Living in Chicago, you never know when the weather will be hot or cold. Good thing we have so many food options for unpredictable weather in the city! My go-to is hot soup or stew, no matter what temperature it is outside. My favorites are Korean stews and soups at Ahjoomah’s Apron….

Fab Happenings: Top 5 Dim Sum in Chicago Chinatown

November 23, 2015 by Contributing Writer

Rice Crepe Covered Fried Dough from Dolo// Photo: @vansventuresLet’s talk dim sum! You know you love it. These little small plates of heaven are made to be shared with friends and family since a couple of plates go a long way. As a child who grew up in a Cantonese family, I had dim sum almost every Sunday. Traditionally, dim sum used to be reserved for the weekends only, where we would get together with the extended family for some tapas style dining. A classic childhood favorite for many, bubble tea or “boba” is on the rise in the Chicago food scene. Expanding upon the boundaries of Chinatown and Chinese restaurants, boba shops are starting to pop up in neighborhoods such as Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, Argyle, and Evanston. As a huge boba enthusiast, I could not be more excited about this new trend. Not only does boba invoke the feeling of growing up in a Chinese household but it is also such a fun experience to drink tea and chew boba at the same time. I definitely appreciate a great cup of boba for any situation.

I have been known to frequent the various boba spots below and thus earned the title #BobaQueen. YASSSSS! While people might need a drink after work, I often go for a cup of boba instead. The concept of drinking and eating might sound weird to many, however, it is definitely something that one should try.

Fab Happenings: Top 5 Ramen in Chicago

September 30, 2015 by Contributing Writer

Photo: @vansventures at Ramen Takeya

The ramen scene has grown rapidly in the last few years and thank goodness for it! There’s just something about that hearty pork bone broth and its rich flavor that seems to strike the right chord with me.

Since I go out to eat ramen so often, I’m known as the #RamenQueen amongst my friends. There was a time when I ate it 7 times in 2 weeks! My absolute obsession for ramen is vast and always expanding. I am always down for a bowl no matter the weather. My favorite type of ramen is the tonkotsu because of its deep and complex flavors.
