Fab Review: Oyster Bah

March 15, 2016 by Soo Park

Oyster Bah // Photo: @fabsooparkOyster Bah is an East Coast-inspired Lettuce Entertain You seafood restaurant in partnership with the team at Shaw’s Crab House. Expect fresh oysters and seafood sourced from all over the world as well as sandwiches, tacos, and Uncle Orkie’s onion burger.

I met up with Mallory (@mallorykorol) for brunch at the Oyster Bah. She is one of the sweetest Instagrammers you’ll ever meet and extremely punny. Check out her Instagram to see why.

Meet Mallory Korol. She was born and raised in Chicago. She loves to travel, spend time with family and friends, and explore new Chicago restaurants. She is a huge foodie who isn’t picky about food, which makes it easy to try just about anything.

Here’s her review of the Oyster Bah…

{Ambiance}
“I walked in feeling like I was at a local East Coast fishing bar. The restaurant had a casual vibe with plenty of high top tables, a sizeable bar, and regular tables. Decorative fishing items were placed around the restaurant, along with hanging lights creating a darker atmosphere. The music was bumpin’ and Drake’s lyrics were posted on the wall. I couldn’t wait to sit down and feast!

Fresh Oysters
We started off our meal correctly with Fresh Oysters. We were able to try oysters from both the East and West Coast, which was a nice variety. The oysters were meaty and easy to slurp back. We also had a horseradish cocktail sauce that I personally loved because of my love for acidic sauces with spice.

FAB TIP: Oyster Bah has good oysters from both the East and West coast. Make sure to try both.

Tuna Poke
The tuna poke was very fresh and served beautifully on a bed of ice. I am a huge fan of raw tuna, and I was impressed with this appetizer. Not only was the dish chilled to perfection, but both the tuna and avocado were cut into generously sized cubes which allowed us to really taste the flavors of both items. They paired their poke with crunchy, salted tortilla chips. The raw poke on the crisp chip created an explosion of textures with each bite.

Fried Oyster Benedict
How could you not try a fried oyster Benedict at a place called Oyster Bah?! This dish was a beauty. Anything with a runny egg is the perfect model for a food photo. The eggs were poached flawlessly. When I cut into them they had a stream of yellow yolk dripping down the English muffin and onto the plate. The oysters were a little too battered and fried for me. I was hoping for more meaty oysters, but I felt they were heavily breaded and lost some of the oyster flavor. I did love that arugula and roasted grape tomatoes were added for a fresher touch.

The Maine Lobster Roll
The Maine Lobster Roll was juicy and delicious. I loved how much celery was mixed into the roll. The crisp celery paired perfectly with the chew of the lobster meat. Also, who doesn’t love a meal that comes with French fries?

Fish Tacos
These fish tacos were massive! Every now and then I like to have a battered fish taco to splurge. This was a good place to do it. The crispy fish literally flaked with every bite. It laid on top of a spicy and crunchy slaw. We were given both a red and green salsa, to top the tacos with. I liked being able to mix it up with salsa options considering I am a huge fan of spice.

Coconut Cake
There’s always room for dessert because it’s a different stomach right? This moist, vanilla coconut cake was a delicious way to end the meal. The cake was generously frosted and loaded with shredded coconut on top. The cake was light enough to stomach after a full meal. I highly recommend it!

FAB TIP: Open at 10 a.m. on Easter Sunday for brunch.

{Experience}
Overall, I had a good time at Oyster Bah. I liked the décor of the restaurant, the service was great, and the food was tasty. If you are looking for a relaxed place with upscale food, good music, and chill vibes, The Oyster Bah is the place for you.

FAB TIP: A cozy basement bar, Crab Cellar, offers guests a more intimate setting with only eight tables and ten bar seats. The full Oyster Bah menu is offered.”
