Fab Review: Butcher & the Burger

December 15, 2015 by Contributing Writer

Photo: Chelsia's custom burger. @chelsias at Burger & the ButcherWhen I was young, craving a burger meant a trip to the nearest fast food drive-thru. But now that I’m older and without a car, I’ve definitely upped my burger game. And, the answer to my weekly burger cravings? Butcher & the Burger.

{Ambiance}
The first words I think of when entering Butcher & the Burger, is “cute and casual”. With bright red wall detailing, classic napkin holders on the tables, and a fun chalk written menu, the old-fashioned burger counter theme comes together perfectly. There is also a small-shop neighborhood vibe that comes from the family-friendly crowd.

The staff is friendly and helpful. It was nice to see the manager visiting tables and asking how our meals were. The tables are meant for four people, but you can definitely maneuver some tables and chairs around if you have a bigger party. There was a small line when I went to place my order, but with all the options the Butcher & the Burger offers, I used that time to peruse the menu trying to decide what to get.

FAB TIP: In the summer months, they offer a few tables outside.

{Food}
For me, the menu was quite overwhelming at first. I truly think the star of Butcher & the Burger is the BYOBurger…aka the “Build Your Own Burger” option. You can fully customize your BYOBurger from start to finish, so you literally have the best tasting burger you could imagine. You have endless options! Luckily for me, once I picked out my protein, the woman taking my order was quick to recommend some fan favorites that went along with my choice.

For the BYOB, you start with the most important part of your burger – the protein. The Butcher & the Burger prides themselves on high quality protein. They offer grass-fed beef, house-blend beef, naturally-raised turkey, Gulf-Coast shrimp, locally-raised pork and sustainably-farmed salmon. After you choose your protein, you get to choose different spices (for your protein), the bun, traditional toppings, and any extra fancier topping and sauces you want to add!

Chelsia’s Burger
Call me a traditionalist, but I am a cheeseburger type of girl. My usual at Butcher & the Burger consists of the house-ground beef with Chicago steakhouse spice, and I top it with tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, and American cheese. But to give it my personal touch, and because I can, I like to add a perfectly fried egg and avocado…all that on a whole-wheat bun. You can’t really go wrong with a traditional cheeseburger!

Butcher & the Burger also offers salads and sides (like the Hand Cut Kennebec Fries) to go along with your burger.

Another unique highlight of the menu is their beignets. These little deep fried fritters are the perfect dessert to cap off your custom burger. They add a nice hint of sweetness to finish your meal.

FAB TIP: In addition to the BYOBurger option, Butcher & the Burger is also a traditional BYOB, so come prepared with your favorite beer.

{Experience}
The Butcher & the Burger is a joint you must check out! You’re almost guaranteed satisfaction because you can customize the burger to fit all your needs. You can add as little or as much as you want which makes every trip and every burger, super fun. I can’t wait to go back to this place and try out different combinations to make the best BYOBurger I can!
