Bad Hunter, located on Randolph Street in the West Loop, is a new veg-forward restaurant from the Heisler Hospitality Group. The executive chef, Dan Snowden, previously worked at Nico Osteria and The Publican. While the primary focus is vegetarian food, they offer a few meat dishes, which also do not disappoint. A wood-fired grill is used to cook their food and the herbs used in their dishes are grown in-house.

Everyone and their mother has heard of Au Cheval, the famous and beloved burger joint of West Loop. It has gotten so popular that the Hogsalt Hospitality group opened a cleverly named sister restaurant, Small Cheval, located a few blocks north of Wicker Park’s bustling Damen “L” stop.

Kimski, located in Bridgeport, is a counter-service restaurant inside Maria’s Packaged Goods & Community Bar. The creative Korean-Polish fusion dishes created by Chef Won Kim are unique but very approachable. It has been on my list of restaurants to try since it opened in May, so I was thrilled to visit.

Forbidden Root is an one-of-a-kind experience, as it is the first botanic brewery in Chicago. They aim to brew their beers from limited hop usage. Instead they use flowers, roots, herbs, and other natural ingredients. Along with the beers, they have a great food menu, which should not be overlooked. The Duck Inn is a casual, neighborhood spot located in Bridgeport. Partner/Chef Kevin Hickey is a Bridgeport native and has deep roots to the neighborhood and community. Not only has his family lived in the neighborhood for many generations, but the family he bought the former Gem-Bar space from, also lived there for many years.
