If you have never been to Mitsuwa before, it can be a little overwhelming to figure out what you want to eat. From ramen to tempura to matcha ice cream, there are many options in the food court.

Sometimes all you have is a craving for fried chicken – and not just that fast food fried chicken that you might guiltily get once in a while, but some good fried chicken. The Budlong, which recently opened in Lincoln Park, right off the Armitage stop, might just be that place to sate this craving. Though you can grab some of this delicious Nashville hot chicken in The Loop at the Revival Food Hall, this dedicated brick and mortar brings an elevated yet homey feel to the food.

What a year it’s been! Lots of questionable and unfortunate things have happened in 2016, but Chicago’s food scene has continued to truck on (pun intended). I’ve been very grateful to be able to explore in greater depth the amazing food that Chicago has to offer, starting with Instagram back in spring and being so lucky to join the Fab Food Chicago team this past October. Bad Hunter, located on Randolph Street in the West Loop, is a new veg-forward restaurant from the Heisler Hospitality Group. The executive chef, Dan Snowden, previously worked at Nico Osteria and The Publican. While the primary focus is vegetarian food, they offer a few meat dishes, which also do not disappoint. A wood-fired grill is used to cook their food and the herbs used in their dishes are grown in-house.

Everyone and their mother has heard of Au Cheval, the famous and beloved burger joint of West Loop. It has gotten so popular that the Hogsalt Hospitality group opened a cleverly named sister restaurant, Small Cheval, located a few blocks north of Wicker Park’s bustling Damen “L” stop.
