November 11, 2016 by Contributing Writer

Fab Review: The Publican // Spoon Bread, Belgian Waffle, and Publican Bacon // Photo: @topchicagoeatsThe Publican, a member of Paul Kahan’s culinary empire, is a pork- and seafood-focused restaurant in the center of the Fulton Market meatpacking district. The Publican stays true to the West Loop style of reinventing traditional American foods with a modern twist and a focus on farm-to-table sustainability.

Fab Recipe: Thai Grilled Shrimp Salad 4 Ways

October 21, 2016 by Contributing Writer

Fab Recipe: Thai Grilled Shrimp Salad 4 Ways // Photo: @natty_s_pantryToday I will be sharing one my favorite recipes from my childhood, which I learned from my mom. The Thai Grilled Shrimp Salad with Thai herbs or Pla-Goong (พล่ากุ้ง) has a nice kick of spice and citrus. This recipe is packed with flavors and has a nice refreshing finish as well as a citrusy note from the lime… a recipe that is similar to ceviche. The secret to making this recipe is the one-of-a-kind homemade Thai Chili Jam (Nam Prik Pao), lemongrass, fresh lime juice, culantro flavor, and grilled shrimp with the shell. Leaving the shell keeps all those delicious juices in guaranteeing a much tastier and tender meat….

Fab Review: Ramen-san // Kimchi and Fried Chicken Ramen // Photo: @fabsooparkRamen-san, a casual ramen spot by Lettuce Entertain You, is located in the heart of River North. Although ramen is considered Japanese, Ramen-san is a little more fusion than most other ramen places. The menu has elements and flavors from various Asian countries….

Kopo Wings, Kimchi Fried Rice, Maria's Standard, and Scallion Potato Pancakes at Kimski // Photo: @topchicagoeatsKimski, located in Bridgeport, is a counter-service restaurant inside Maria’s Packaged Goods & Community Bar. The creative Korean-Polish fusion dishes created by Chef Won Kim are unique but very approachable. It has been on my list of restaurants to try since it opened in May, so I was thrilled to visit.

Fab Review: Forbidden Root

June 20, 2016 by Contributing Writer

Grilled Asparagus, Fried Giardiniere, and Gochugarou Chili Popcorn at Forbidden Root // Photo: @topchicagoeatsForbidden Root is an one-of-a-kind experience, as it is the first botanic brewery in Chicago. They aim to brew their beers from limited hop usage. Instead they use flowers, roots, herbs, and other natural ingredients. Along with the beers, they have a great food menu, which should not be overlooked. The dishes are primarily focused on local and organic ingredients and made to complement the beers. …
